The island of Ischia is large and there are many beautiful places to visit. Our hotel has the good fortune to be located in a central point from where one can discover the three most captivating aspects of the island: the woodlands, the sea, the historical centres.
The historical centre of Ischia is very close to a panoramic walkway that overlooks the port and leads straight to its heart. Take the Ischia road to visit the medieval village of Sant’Alessandro, with its characteristic small winding roads and lovely church. Cross the village to get to the right side of the Port: look at the lovely Pompey red architecture of Palazzo D’Ambra, one of the oldest buildings in the area. The road surrounding the port is very characteristic and its circular form reveals the ancient origin of this Bourbon basin: before Ferdinand II turned it into a port it was a lake. Go on, and you will reach the right bank, here there are many restaurants and bars, one of the most fashionable places of Ischia nightlife.
The woods
Very close to the Hotel Le Querce there is one of the largest woods on the island. In the 1800’s pine trees were planted on the Maddalena hill which now form a large green area, a cool place even in summer and the point of departure for an eco-trail on Monte Rotaro. Well signposted roads and stone stairs with wood fences lead you to the summit. At the top just admire the breathtaking view of the port of Ischia from above. Wood benches and tables invite you to relax and have a picnic surrounded by Ischian nature. The trails on Monte Rotaro or Cretaio are very well kept and well signposted, guiding you along a complete discovery of the woods. If you wish to continue, other municipal areas of the island can be reached from here: Casamicciola Terme and Barano.
The sea and thermal springs
From the Hotel Le Querce discover the endless sea that surrounds us. From the village of Sant’Alessandro take the path down to the Spiaggia degli Inglesi (Englishmen’s Beach), a lovely cove hides a delightful free area and a well-equipped beach, as well as a restaurant on characteristic stilts. The Bagnitiello beach is also close by for those who like walking, with its famous hot water spring that bursts out from below the coastline.
The beautiful Castiglione Thermal Park is also near here; this is a large complex with swimming pools of different temperatures, saunas, beaches and two restaurants overlooking the sea.
